Die Gesellschaft wurde 1993 in Garmisch-Partenkirchen von Ärzten* und Wissenschaftlern gegründet und ist seit vielen Jahren mit der Internationalen Amyloidose-Gesellschaft in Boston, USA, assoziiert.
 
Sie unterstützt Ärzte und Wissenschaftler, die Ursachen und Folgen der Amyloidosen erforschen, und fördert Bemühungen, die einer Verbesserung des Verständnisses und der Behandlung von Amyloidosen dienen.
 
Die Gesellschaft möchte darüber hinaus dazu beitragen, die verschiedenen Krankheitsbilder der Amyloidosen einer breiteren Öffentlichkeit bekannt zu machen, und Betroffenen, Angehörigen und nicht-spezialisierten Ärzten die Erfahrung von regionalen und nationalen Experten zur Verfügung stellen.
