summary/abstract:

To diagnose amyloidosis, some major steps should be considered by the patients and healthcare professionals. The primary step of diagnosis is that the healthcare should consider that the patient has amyloidosis. When a patient suffers from multiple complications such as heart disease, liver disease, kidney disease, etc, amyloidosis should be taken into consideration. If a person has one organ complication then also he may be suffering from this disease. 
 
No other disease has tongue enlargement as a severe complication as in this disease. To diagnose this disease, a histological dye known as congo red is used. This is a dye which can stain amyloid deposits in an organ and can be visualised under a polarised microscope. To test for this disease, fat sample from the stomach is taken through the liposuction procedure. If this test comes negative then tissue or organ biopsy is performed. Blood and urine tests are also performed to diagnose amyloidosis.
